What is a Skoolie?

There’s a community of people around the world who convert school buses into tiny houses, toy haulers, and RV’s. Whether a conversion from a short or a full sized bus, regardless of the purpose, we’re all using the incredible framework of an old school bus. Sure, I could pay someone to do the work, but I’d rather do most (if not all) of the work on my own. I chose to name my bus “The Derelicte Bus,” drawing upon inspiration from the classic comedy movie Zoolander. Mine will eventually be my full time tiny house.

It’s been quite an adventure, and as of late May 2018, I’ve been living in The Derelicte Bus full time on a ranch in Del Rio Texas. Though the bus is not yet done, any money that I’m not channeling towards rent is going toward the build.

Update: January 2019, I’ll begin a 6 month deployment to the Middle East. This will delay the bus a great deal, but I’ll be able to revisit some of my ideas and document everything on this website.
